Battle Royale fever has been strong in our house since the original release of PUBG for Xbox One. Fortnite and PUBG have been massive hits with our five-year-old (yes we’re terrible parents) for a few months now, and they’ve been massive hits around the world. It’s easy to see why, there’s a lot of tension and enjoyment in creeping around trying to kill everyone else, or y’know, charging at everyone else trying to kill them. However you play, it’s hard to deny the appeal of Battle Royale style games.
Yesterday saw the release of PUBG for mobile, and luckily for me I’m in the UK with an android phone, so my bus trip home was occupied with trying to kill other people. Now I’ll be honest, I suck at PUBG on the Xbox. I can’t see the little people running around that Robin can spot in an instant, and my aim goes to shit when someone is standing right in front of me, so I wasn’t holding out any hope of being any good at the mobile version – if I can’t see people on the big screen, how the hell am I supposed to see them on my phone screen?! Oddly though, I found I didn’t suck as badly on mobile as I do on Xbox. I managed to get three kills in my first game, that’s more kills than I’ve got in all of my Xbox tries combined! The aiming controls seem much steadier, for me at least.
The map is the same map you get on the Xbox game, though Robin seems to think it feels smaller, I still feel like I’m always waaay too far away from where I need to be.
I really like the fact you automatically pick up the highest level items, because the less thinking I have to do when I’m already trying to stay alive and kill people the better. Honestly I would be the first person to die in the Hunger Games. I also like the daily missions! I just love rewards.
By far my favourite thing about the mobile version (other than it being free) is that it’s still as tense for me as the Xbox version. I still suck at it, but I’m still really enjoying playing it.
PUBG Mobile is available free for Android and iOS now!
