This afternoon, Nintendo finally game Pokemon fans what they’ve been waiting for – a new core game.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are due for release later this year on the Nintendo Switch, and from what we’ve seen so far, we’re already excited.
The new core games introduce a new region, the Galar region, described by the Pokemon company as:
Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments — an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and the pokémon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region. Fans will have the opportunity to visit various gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become champion.
We’ve also been introduced to the three adorable new starter pokemon – grass-type Grookey, fire-type Scorbunny and water-type Sobble. Grookey is “mischievous” and full of curiosity, Scorbunny loves to run around, and Sobble can shoot out watery attacks as it takes shelter and hides itself in the water.
Take a look at the trailer below:
It looks like there’s a return to traditional battle mechanics, and random encounters with wild Pokemon, which is something many felt was missing from the Let’s Go games.
The 3D style is lovely, and this is a world I’m definitely looking forward to exploring!
