Another day, another awesome gaming presentation! Today it was Pokemon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, who shared with us some great upcoming releases.
First up was Pokemon Smile, a game designed to encourage kids to brush their teeth. Now, as a mother of teeth-having children, I think this is an awesome idea, and it’s totally adorable, even if the Pokemon are a little derpy looking.
Pokemon Smile is an AR game which turns teeth-brushing into an adventure, simply brush your teeth to rescue Pokemon from cavity-causing bacteria! You get to wear an adorable hat while you brush your teeth and as a reward at the end you get to catch the Pokemon! This is definitely going to become part of our teeth-brushing routines.
The game is out now for Apple and Android devices.
Pokemon Cafe Mix
The next game we were shown was Pokemon Cafe mix, a super cute puzzle game for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It’s a free-to-start game (in-app purchases are available if you want to progress quicker, etc) where you solve puzzles with Pokemon, to make them tasty drinks and snack when they come to visit your cafe. This game will be released on June 25th, but you can pre-order it now in the Apple Store, Google Play store, and on the Nintendo Switch.
The classic, much-loved N64 game Pokemon Snap is making a comeback on the Nintendo Switch! The release trailer for this was beautiful and sure to get fans excited. There is no current release date, but it was great to see it’s finally coming! All we know at the moment is that it’s called New Pokemon Snap (straight to the point) and it’s being developed by Bandai Namco. Here’s a nice quote from Nintendo to get you excited:
“Travel to unknown islands with beautiful scenery like lush jungles and sandy beaches. The Pokémon pictures you take there will be used to build your very own Pokémon Photodex! This brand-new game brings the gameplay of the 1999 Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo 64 system to life on the Nintendo Switch system with unknown islands to discover and different Pokémon to see!
Photograph lively wild Pokémon in their natural habitats as you research and explore unknown islands. Journey through a variety of environments such as beaches and jungles to capture previously-unseen Pokémon behaviors. The photos you take can also be used to fill out your very own Pokémon Photodex!”

Pokemon Go Updates
We were treated to a flurry of updates regarding Pokemon Go next, including all the ways The Pokemon Company and Niantic are keeping the game accessible during lockdown, including remote raid passes, half-distance egg hatches and being able to spin photo discs at gyms and Pokestops from further away. We also had an update regarding the all digital Go Fest. Tickets are currently available in the in-game store for £14.99 in the UK, and it seems that players will have the chance to grab themselves a Victini by completing the special research for the event.
It was also revealed that Mega evolutions would be making an appearance in the game, as developers are “working to deliver a new take on Mega Evolution that is enhanced by Pokemon Go’s unique gameplay”.
Finally, for this section at least, we learnt that Galarian Farfetch’d is now available in Pokemon Go.
Pokemon Sword and Shield: Isle of Armor
Finally, it was time for the main event – updates about the new DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield.
We learnt that Zeraora is now available in Max Raid Battles, but like the Mewtwo that was previously available players are unable to catch it. However, if 1 million players defeat Zeraora, every player in the game will be gifted a shiny Zeraora, which definitely negates the disappointment of not being able to catch it after battling.
In order to claim your Zeraora (if enough players beat it) you will need to move a pokemon from Pokemon Home on a mobile device, into Pokemon Sword or Shield, you will then be gifted Zeraora in Pokemon Home.
And then if all that wasn’t enough, we were teased with a big reveal coming in another presentation next week! Rumours abound – Diamond and Pearl remakes? Another Let’s Go? Who knows – we’ll have to wait and see!
Let us know in the comments what your favourite announcement from this presentation was!
We’d also love to know if you’ve downloaded the DLC yet, and if so, what are your thoughts?
